Yes, the point is to collectively coin the best possible solutions. But in doing that I believe it’s always essential to move forward.
Disagreeing without offering alternatives essentially stops the conversation. Yes, if there is a scenario with multiple people in the room, it is possible someone could find an insight within the disagreement and offer an alternative. But what if that’s not the case?
I subscribe to the “yes, and” rule of improvisational comedy. In this context, it’s less about the “yes” part, more about the “and” part. So I may listen to your point and say “no” but always offering the “and” is essential to progress, and moving forward to finding the truth we’re looking for.
